Advanced Micro Devices has signed the deal with an Abu Dhabi investment company to
form the firm that is set to build and operate a computer chip factory in Malta.

The deal comes nearly two weeks after AMD shareholders gave the green light for the
company to partner with Advanced Technology Investment Co., an investment firm
funded by the Abu Dhabi government. The partnership between the two will form what's
temporarily called the Foundry Co., which is charged with overseeing construction and
operation of the 1.3-million-square-foot computer chip plant at the Luther Forest
Technology Campus.

Under the terms of the deal, ATIC owns 65.8 percent of Foundry's shares, while AMD will
assume the remaining shares but will have equal voting rights in the joint venture.

Company officials are expected to announce soon when they'll be able to buy the 222
acres of land at Luther Forest, which straddles the Malta and Stillwater town line. The
Foundry Co. has submitted site plans to the town of Malta for the permits to start the
construction phase of the plant. The town is expected to vote on the plans March 10.

Workers could begin clearing land for the facility in Luther Forest within the next few
weeks, said Travis Bullard, an AMD spokesman.

"We've got the incentive package in place," Bullard said, referring to the $1.2 billion in
perks and tax breaks from the state.

He said all that's left to do to receive the money is submit a letter to the Empire State
Development Corporation that says the project is officially a go.

"There's no more hoops to jump through," he said.

AMD has already begun leasing 9,000 square feet of office space at the Saratoga
Technology and Energy Park in Luther Forest to house workers during construction.

The $4.6 million plant is expected to employ more than 1,400, and could break ground as
soon as June, though that date is subject to change, Bullard said.

"Once we get our general contractor on board and we finalize the construction
schedule, we'll announce a firm ground-breaking date," he said.

The Foundry Co. is set to get a new name and logo on Wednesday.
Global Foundries project in Malta, NY.  TFS has the UPW and gas distribution, and probably about 100
men employed. There are three contractors close to completion on the base mechanical, and two other
contractors I believe, LPS on bulk gases, and Westech with some other aspect of gas distribution, who
are on site. Expect a ramp up of manpower from both TFS and Westech anytime now, and along with
that a schedule that will likely go to 7-12's quickly. As expected, orbital welders are a premium, and are
negotiating additional wages and per diem, it is "rumored". Hiring is BA to BA, and I believe that their
bench is clear. There is a solid six months work ahead for travelers installing UPW and gas
distrtribution, and then comes the tool hookups. An estimate of the number of fitters on site presently
would be around 200, and that number should double over the next few months easily. There's a lot of
BS on the job regarding safety, etc., but overall, the work is decent. TFS is currently working 6-10's,
although one crew is working on bulk gas at 7-12's.
