Gilbane Building Co. has been selected by the State of California, Judicial Council of California, to provide
construction management-at-risk and preconstruction services for a new courthouse for the State
Superior Court in Madera. The project goal is LEED Silver certification. Construction cost is $66.3 million.


California Community Colleges has awarded a $20.6-million contract to Taisei Construction Corp. to build
the Math, Business and Allied Health Building at El Camino College, near Torrance. The four-story,
115,000-sq-ft cast-in-place concrete building will contain 72 offices, 58 classrooms and three division
suites. Funded by a $394-million bond issue¡ªthe largest ever for a single-campus community college in
California¡ªthe structure will feature components aimed at reducing energy consumption, including
low-flow water fixtures, sensors that turn off lights in unoccupied rooms and low-volatile
organic-compound materials. It is expected to be completed by December 2011.
